Description:
TheQuiltShow.com was lucky enough to visit the Jeffrey Deitch gallery in NYC on the final day of the Bisa Butler The World is Yours exhibit. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing photos from her fabulous exhibit. We've featured Bisa before and you can learn more about her here and here. Her colorful and impactful quilts are created using quite unusual fabrics for quilts and you'll want to look at all the details from the background fabrics to her quilting designs.
Up first, The General, which is based "After a portrait of Harriet Tubman by W.H. Ernsberger, 1900 via Schomberg Center for Research in Black Culture." What's amazing about all of Bisa's quilts is their scale. You just don't understand the grand size of each one until you see it in person. For example, this own measures 85.3" x 60", or 7 feet tall by 5 feet wide!
