WeAllSew Tutorial: Quilt Binding With Words

As Alex, and many other quilters, have said before, it is important to always label your quilts. But who says you just have to put a label on the back? With everything going on the past few years, Amanda Leins at WeAllSew didn't have time to create a label, so she decided to put the label in the in the quilt's binding! Find out how she did it.

From Amanda Leins at WeAllSew:

"Hello! My name is Mandy Leins of Mandalei Quilts, and I am a longarmer, pattern designer, and book author. While I almost always label my quilts, this last year was so busy that I didn’t get to attaching information to everything. That got me thinking about the ways we label our quilts, and I wanted to try something a little different. This tutorial is how I used the built-in alphabets on my BERNINA 790 to add text to the binding itself. Because my BERNINA is capable of a 9mm stitch width, I have provided the cutting instructions I used. Machines with a narrow stitch width may be able to use strips cut slightly less wide."

My machine does embroidery. A recent quilt I made I included the “label “ on one of the sashing strips parallel to a long side. It was a gift to my son and DIL, they loved it in view.
I often try to incorporate the label in the face of the quilt....

I often try to incorporate the label in the face of the quilt. Artists sign their paintings, why not quilters.
