Featured Quilt - Second Place Large Quilts: 1st Entry in an AQS Paducah Quilt Contest at Paducah 2025

Wetlands by Paula Curry won Second Place - Large Quilts: 1st Entry in an AQS Paducah Quilt Contest (Sponsored by Gammill®) at AQS QuiltWeek – Paducah 2025. Paula's quilt takes its inspiration from two different patterns by Judy & Bradley Niemeyer at Quiltworx.com, which are Cattails in the Meadow and Celtic Sunrise. Quilted by Sherry May, we love the way Paula uses machine appliqué, foundation piecing, machine piecing, paper piecing, and free motion quilting to vividly create the Wetlands of the title.

Creating Pet Portraits with Jane Haworth

Find Out How She Does It, and Gets the Eyes Just Right Too

On our latest show, Jane Haworth shows how she creates her exquisite pet portraits. Starting with a line drawing from an original photograph, she uploads and enlarges the photo to create the pattern and guides for your fabric shapes. She then shares examples of fabrics for fur, the nose, and other textural elements of the animal before moving on to one of the most important features—the eyes.

Jane believes the eyes are what give an animal its personality and sense of life. She demonstrates how small details, such as shadows and highlights, can make the eyes appear lifelike and expressive.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Quilt Made Among Friends

"Friendship" by Tommy Romono

Friendship is one of Tommy's students' favorite quilts. He hangs it up in his classroom and as a bonus for quizzes asks them how many triangles are in the quilt. It was created as part of a block exchange with Tommy's local quilt store in Katy, which is a suburb of Houston. Blocks were submitted, returned, and exchanged around, which is why her called it Friendship, because it features all sorts of fabrics coming together to make the quilt, just as different people come into your life to help you out.
