The Quilt Show Puzzle: "Oh Dahlias" by Shannon Conley
Do a puzzle of Shannon Conley's quilt, Oh Dahlias.
Oh Dahlias is an abstract interpretation of a Dahlia flower. Shannon loves to grow Dahlias in her garden and loves how their repeating petals are similar to those of repeating quilt blocks or repeating forms in nature. The quilt itself is three Dahlia petals blown up big and made in a real sculptural style. Oh Dahlias is just one of the quilts that Shannon has made where one of the design techniques she employed was cutting lots of little holes throughout that provides an organic shape and texture to the piece.
Artist Statement: "I love the depth and variation in color found in flower petals. I'm particularly intrigued by dahlias, which have layer after layer of petals, sometimes loose and flowy, other times tight and almost cylindrical. This piece was the outcome of study of many different forms of dahlias."
