The Quilt Show Puzzle: "Just Breathe" by Geri Patterson-Kutras
Do a puzzle of Geri Patterson-Kutras' quilt, Just Breathe.
Just Breathe is based on a photograph that Geri took up at Black Butte Ranch in Sisters, Oregon while she was staying there for the Sisters Quilt Show. The quilt depicts the rowboats that you can rent there as they lie still on the lake of the ranch. The inspirational photo was taken by Geri at the end of the day as she was about to go in for dinner. To her, the boats were saying, "We've been working really, really, really hard today," and she felt that they needed to take a moment and "Just Breathe."
Artist Statement: "I originally made this as a small piece called "By the Lake." I loved it so much that it was always my intention to make it in a much larger format. It was one of those pictures you take that remains in your subconscious beckoning you to revisit the scene for new inspirations. We were staying at Black Butte Ranch in Sisters, Oregon for the annual quilt show. There's a small lake at the Ranch where you can rent little row boats to paddle around on warm afternoons. I took the photo at the end of the day when the color crayon little boats were all returned, moored for the day, floating on the water grateful for the opportunity to rest. There was a magical tranquility in the air, the heat of the mid-day was giving way to the cool breezes of the evening and the Three Sisters mountains, like a scene out of a Bob Ross painting class, embraced the landscape whispering "just breath.""
