The Quilt Show Puzzle: "Hurricane Harvey Hits Houston" by Patricia Belyea
Do a puzzle of Patricia Belyea's quilt, Hurricane Harvey Hits Houston.
Hurricane Harvey Hits Houston is Patricia's disaster quilt and was made in response to Hurricane Harvey striking Houston in August 2017. Since she, and many others, didn't know what the Houston Quilt Festival was going to be like in the aftermath, she made the journey to see what was going on. Once there, she, along with the other few who made it, realized that the place was a ghost town with many not choosing to make the trip. For the quilt itself, she inserted the brown swirling fabric as the first layer to represent the hurricane and used the turquoise and orange fabric as the second layer to represent the debris. All of the fabric used is Yukata cottons, except the solids, and Patricia sees this quilt as her first foray into double insertions in her quilts.
