Featured Quilt - Second Place Pictorial-Large at Houston 2024

Ferentino by Janet Fogg won Second Place - Pictorial-Large (Sponsored by World of Quilts Travel) at Houston International Quilt Festival 2024. Janet's quilt has ties to her family history, as it was inspired by a trip to Italy. She says, “While visiting my ancestral town of Ferentino, Italy, I was inspired by the spiral column in the cathedral to design a family monument.”

Make Improv Mosaic Scrap Log Cabins with Lorraine Woodruff-Long

Improve Your Improv Work With These Techniques

Lorraine Woodruff-Long has a fun way to use up your scraps of solids from other projects to create three different sizes of Log Cabin blocks in our brand new show. Learn how chain piecing and mixing clashing colors for that added "pop" result in uniquely different blocks, along with how the cross & wonky curve block can also be added to the mix. She then offers ideas for assembling the various sizes to create a completely one-of-a-kind quilt.

Learn from Lorraine by watching How to Do an Improv Mosaic Scrappy Log Cabin, Use Text in Quilts, and Reimagine Shirting with Lorraine Woodruff-Long.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Over the Modern "Mountains"

"Mod Mountains" by Suzy Williams

Suzy says of her quilt, which won Third Place - Handwork at QuiltCon 2016"Mod Mountains is a graphic interpretation of the Rocky Mountains. Woven cottons, plaids and solid fabrics were chosen to represent the classic mountaineer. The use of negative space causes the viewer to step back and see the quilt as a whole composition. However, the detailed hand-stitching brings the viewer back for a closer look at the subtly and texture achieved."
