A Quilt That's Watching You, On the Set with Becky Goldsmith, See "The Beauty of Patchwork from Rural China", Was Your Mother Printing on Fabric?, In The Store - Poppie Cotton Special Edition 45mm Rotary Cutter by Quilters Select, A Warrior Woman Puzzle

Featured Quilt - He's Watching You

It seemed like the eyes on this great big beautiful cat were watching you as you wandered around the floor of the Houston International Quilt Festival 2025. Louann Jobe Fisher writes about her quilt, Those Mesmerizing Blue Eyes, quilted by Tony Jeter, "I fell in love with this guy the first time I saw him! Those gorgeous blue eyes! After a long search, I finally found the panels and began designing my version of him. A perfect subject for the One Block Wonder technique."

One Hundred Stitches, One Hundred Villages - The Beauty of Patchwork from Rural China

On Exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston

December 6, 2025–May 3, 2026

From the Museum: "In rural Chinese villages today, women are creating dynamic patchwork textiles, as their mothers and grandmothers did before them. This art form, which evolved from ancient Buddhist and Daoist customs of monks dressing in patched rags to project a sense of humility, is rooted in practicality, with the fabrics serving as bed and window covers, door curtains, and children’s clothing. The vibrant abstract compositions demonstrate creativity and fine artistic sensibilities that flourish far beyond the borders of established Chinese art canons.

This exhibition presents nearly 20 kaleidoscopic Chinese patchwork textiles, which are rarely seen outside the villages where they are made."

Was Your Mother Printing on Fabric?

Are You a Modernist?

Everything old is new again. Let's visit this fun video from 1955 where we get to see how "housewives" printed on fabric.

From the Narrator: "Although it is often stated that a woman's place is in the home, the influence she exerts on its appearance is often overlooked...Doing something yourself always gives much more satisfaction and if you can't draw you can always be a modernist!"

The Quilt Show Puzzle: See a Warrior's Inner Strength

"Nguvu Az Adani: Inner Strength" by Renée Fleuranges-Valdes

In Renée's show she brought to the set a number of warrior women. The beautiful colors and amount of different types of background quilting in this example, help to reinforce this warrior woman's inner strength.
