Featured Quilt - Second Place Appliqué at QuiltCon 2025
Some of us yearning for warmer weather might appreciate this delightful quilt, Oasis, by Cassandra Beaver of Urbana, Ohio. Oasis won Second Place in the Appliqué category at QuiltCon 2025.
Cassandra writes, "Photographs of desert plant life at a Nevada botanical garden combined with the red rock formations of Southern Utah inspired this needle turn appliqué quilt. Using AutoCAD, I translated these images into a template line drawing. As I turned the edges of each fabric section under during the stitching process, the gradient background was revealed, creating a stained glass-like effect. The gridded quilting is reminiscent of observing the outdoor world through a window screen." |

There's a New Hire at Quilts, Inc.

Overseeing and scheduling these workers is the task of the Piece Corps, Show Assistant, and Volunteer Coordinator. Quilts, Inc. announces that Garri Kaye has been named to the position. She brings with her nearly a decade of experience in multiple roles for the shows, and is replacing the retiring Terri Winsauer. “I am so excited to have Garri Kaye take over,” Winsauer notes. “She is the perfect person for this position—and she’s a quilter herself!” |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Smiling Summer Flower |
|
|
|
"Summer's Smile, Helianthus" by Ann P. Shaw
Ann writes of Summer's Smile, Helianthus, "Summer brings the most amazing flowers. One of my favorites are Sunflowers. They seem unlikely as blossoms, with enormous discs of seeds and vibrant petals. Their vibrancy seems to match the bright red gingham table cloths we used on picnics. It's as if they are summer’s smiles."
