These shears are great general purpose shears with hollow-ground blades for extra-smooth cutting. They cut a wide variety of fabrics, from very fine (silk, organza, lace) to heavy duty (canvas, leather, heavy felt). They can also cut multiple layers without doing that "thing" where some layers pull to the side- we tested them on 12 layers each of both quilting cotton and cotton batting and found that we were able to cut each quite well.
