The Laurel Ridge quilt design honors the brave women of the 1930s American Depression era who worked with the WPA, delivering books through the Packhorse Librarian Program initiated by Eleanor Roosevelt. Earning $28 a month, these women faced significant challenges to bring literacy to remote areas in Kentucky. Their courage and commitment to improving lives are truly inspiring.

Lynn says,

“I regard these women as fearless and 'plucky,' committed to bettering the lives of their families and those impoverished and illiterate. Their bravery is commendable, and their tale deserves to be shared.”

Lynn's Hearthstone and Laurel Ridge fabric collections used in the quilts represent two generations of women—a grandmother and her cherished granddaughter—bonded by their love of quilting. Hearthstone, the Grandmother's Autumn colorway, mirrors the flat stones of the woodland cabin hearth, while Laurel Ridge, the Granddaughter's Spring colorway, captures the vibrant spring flowers and warm days spent learning to quilt.

Our Granddaughter’s Spring Laurel Ridge Quilt Kit includes 14 fabrics from Marcus Fabrics’ Hearthstone collection by Lynn Wilder.

Laurel Ridge is a learning project that will have you brushing up on old skills and learning some new ones. Each month's instructions will include supporting live presentations by expert quilter Barbara Black. Quilts made from The Quilt Show's past Block of the Month patterns have won more than 300 awards at shows around the world- this one is sure to be a prizewinner too!

The finished quilt measures approximately 90 inches square.

Is this quilt machine pieced, hand piece or appliquéd?

Machine pieced .. may be able to hand piece but it is designed to be machine pieced. There is some appliqué but there will be alternatives presented.
