Description:
David says about the creation and inspiration for Welcome Home: "It took years to convince my friend Margo Clabo to grant me permission to adapt her heartwarming photo into a quilt. I knew from the beginning it would be a huge undertaking as I could only imagine it at this size. To faithfully re-create the pieced quilt resting on the front porch swing, detailed patterns of minuscule pieces were drafted. It was more than four years in the making, but worth every moment spent in the studio."
Margo Clabo says about David's win, and the original quilt that inspired him: "I did not go to the International Quilt Festival in Houston this year, but I just got some exciting news from the show! Quilt artist, David Taylor, used a photograph that I took of a quilt I made for Alvin and created a stunning quilt from the photo, and he won the “Viewer’s Choice” award at the show! I made the original quilt from muslin that I died myself. I made the log cabin blocks (with 1/2” logs!) and Alvin rearranged them on the design wall for days until he finally told me to sew them together. I am thrilled and amazed at David’s attention to the details of the photo, and send thanks to Barbara Black and Brenda Miller for sharing these photos!
