Artist Statement: "When I made Singer Presents Mary Ellen Hopkins, I wanted to make a piece that spoke directly to quilters.  I was introduced to strip piecing by Mary Ellen, who owned a quilt shop in Santa Monica, CA. She opened up a whole new world for me and my life was never the same."

I started quilting because of Mary Ellen Hopkins. I bought her book, "It's OK to Sit on My Quilt" and that opened a whole new world. My bed had a hand-pieced, hand-quilted quilt my grandmother had made in the 1930's and I was never allowed to sit on that quilt. That was my ideal of quilting and I knew I could never do that. Between Mary Ellen and Eleanor Burns, I've been successfully quilting for 40 years.
