Description:
Raising A Strong Girl uses a photograph of Lynn's friend's daughter dressed for Halloween as its subject. The inspiration for the theme of the quilt came from when Lynn saw her friend's daughter look at the photo of herself in the costume and seeing her surprise at how strong she looked. This in turn led to discussions between the mother, daughter, and Lynn about how to keep girls feeling that strength within themselves.
Raising A Strong Girl by Lynn Czaban won Second Place - Small Wall Quilts: Pictorial (Sponsored by PFAFF) at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2024. While entered and winning in the Pictorial Quilt category, you could also consider this piece as a portrait quilt as well. Depicting a strong and independent young woman, the quilt sends a powerful message as its subject surrounded by messages of encouragement to set an example of the ideals she can strive towards as she grows older.
