Overprint
Quilt Summary:
"Overprint" won 1st place in the Windham Fabrics Artisan Cotton Fabric Challenge at QuiltCon 2024.
- Patchwork
- - Domestic Machine
Description:
The quilts in the challenge had to use at least 3 of the 6 challenge fabrics chosen by featured artists Jacquie Gering.
Artist Statement: "Overprinting is when a color is printed directly over another causing a mix of those colors. When I received the challenge fabrics, I knew I would make something that had a transparency effect, like overprinting. Windham Artisan Cottons are a cross-weave fabric, meaning the warp and weft yarns are different colors. Imagine that apple green-chartreuse is printed on top of aqua-white first, then the turquoise-copper and grape-dark pink circles are printed on top. Where the circles overlap the green, they become darker, in those sections I used the darker aqua-blue and red-royal. The crosshatch quilting, stitched with green in one direction and light aqua in the other, mimics the warp and weft in the fabric. "Overprint" was inspired by Jenny Haynes' "Twice Cut Drunkard's Path" technique, and I used her 14" Drunkard's Path Template Set to cut the shapes @pappersaxsten. It was machine pieced and quilted on a stationary machine."
