This featured quilt and quilter both come from Indiana, where Laura Welklin's quilt, Leaves in My Garden, received the NACQJ Award of Merit in February at the Indiana Heritage Quilt Show in Bloomington IN by NACQJ CJ Lisa Schreck. Laura's quilt is a feast of floral and nature-inspired designs, from its machine quilted leaf border to its rows of flower boxes surrounding the center. NACQJ (National Association of Certified Quilt Judges) Award of Merit Requirements: "With the prior approval of a quilt show's coordinator or sponsor, NACQJ certified judges have the option of awarding this special ribbon to a deserving quilt in any show they are hired to judge. At the judge's discretion, the NACQJ Award of Merit will be awarded to one quilt which has achieved recognized standards of quiltmaking excellence.The NACQJ Award of Merit is yet another way the NACQJ strives to recognize & reward exceptional quilts."
