Artist Cole Whitaker won the Best of Show Award in the "A Celebration of Color" 2023 judged show and a $1,000 prize sponsored by eQuilter.com for his work "Joy." Here, he talks with Bob Ruggiero about that quilt, his creative journey, and tracking down the friend who he depicts in fabric!

Description:
Artist Statement: "This quilt was designed based on a picture that I took of a friend. I designed the quilt, pieced it, quilted it, and designed some of the fabrics that were included in it. I named the quilt Joy because that is what the picture embodies to me.”

This annualy judged competition is for those who like to play with color to create a vibrant work in a variety of styles. There are quilts made by hand or machine, appliquéd, pieced, or wholecloth.
