Description:
Artist Statement: "In an improv paper piecing workshop with Amy Friend, students each designed and made one simple block with just a few random lines. Then she showed us how to manipulate and repeat them in a photo collage app on our phones. I was so intrigued by this process, I made a file of random line blocks in Electric Quilt. After about 400 iterations, I came up with this one. Each block is the same layout, even in the border. The blocks, ranging in size from 1 3/8” to 9” may look different because some are mirrored stretched or rotated. When I was done, I thought it looked like ceramic tiles or in Portuguese, Azulejos. It’s paper pieced and free motion quilted on a stationary machine using a ruler. Check out the back to see a ghost image of the front. Vermont Quilt Festival 2021 Best of Show, QuiltCon 2021 2nd Place in the American Patchwork and Quilting Wedge Challenge category Judge’s Choice ribbon selected by Pantera Saint-Montaigne @brooklynmojo."
