What is the 30th Anniversary Quilt Alliance Block Of the Month?:

"From April to December 2023 we’ll be sharing one block a month with Quilt Alliance members and donors. Each of these designers has participated in a Quilt Alliance oral history project, so we’ll be sharing quilt stories and nine great blocks to celebrate our 30th year!"

"Why Birthday Girl? Because it's my birthday month as I submit this. Hello 61! I love playing with an array of scraps in various styles and genres, just placing them by color to add some cohesion to the chaos. In my own world, all of the neutrals, purples, reds, oranges would be as scrappy as possible, but the unity within each color family shows the many faces of our lives that come together, making things more interesting than if we had used one fabric for each color alone. We are not the same person every single day. There are many sides to who we are. My scraps tell the story of my life — each piece a spot on the timeline over the past 40 years I've called myself a quilter."

Bonnie Hunter is one of my very favourite quilt artists. I've made several of her mystery quilts plus her tribute to Ukraine quilt. I'm an art quilter who works without a pattern, but I also make bed quilts and comfort quilts. Her approach to scrappy quilts has inspired me to take her lessons and make them my own -- string piecing, pinwheels, HSTs from strings and on and on. Moreover, her Scrap-savers System has enabled me to sort my scraps and ensure that as little fabric as possible is wasted; it's given birth to my Keep It Out of the Landfill Project. May her enthusiasm for quilts and quilting never dim; may her light always shine!
