Featured Quilt - First Place Large Quilts: Hand Quilted Quilts at AQS QuiltWeek Fall Paducah 2017

Hawaiian Improv by Cheryl L. See won 1st Place - Large Quilts: Hand Quilted Quilts (Sponsored by Flynn Quilt Frame Company) at AQS QuiltWeek - Fall Paducah 2017. Cheryl's quilt is her interpretation of a Hawaiian quilt, and also received a Viewers' Choice Award at AQS QuiltWeek - Lancaster 2018. She says, "My quilt is an innovative take on the traditional Hawaiian quilt using wholecloth fabrics. The appliqué is of a topiary garden in the center of a small town. There are hand quilted cobblestone paths between buildings and suburbs surrounding the town, followed by farmers' fields. You can find laundry hanging on the line and a graveyard with ghosts behind the church. The entire quilt is heavily embellished."

After viewing the quilt, and seeing the amazing handmade quilting and appliqué that was put into it, be sure to click the Quilt Video tab to watch an interview with Cheryl conducted by Bonnie Browning on the floor of AQS QuiltWeek - Fall Paducah 2017 after winning her award. Watch and learn how Cheryl designed, hand stitched, and quilted her prizewinning quilt.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Reinterpretation of Royalty

"The Gardens Of A King" by Missie Carpenter

The Gardens Of A King is Missie's version of the King George III Coverlet from 1803. Missie got permission to use the designs and put it together using her English Paper Piecing method. She says, "the center block represents a formal garden that may be found at an English Castle while the appliqué surrounding it are florals, fruits and herbs that were used often for daily needs of that time period. Surrounding the center are 16 different 6 3/4" blocks from the original quilt, repeated twice in the center of the quilt."
