Featured Quilt - First Place Pictorial Large at Houston 2024
Spring may still be a few months away for some, but Hiroko Miyama and Masanobu Miyama have captured the joyful feeling of flower growing season in a beautiful quilt. Joyful Spring won First Place - Pictorial Large (Sponsored by World Of Quilts Travel) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024. As to the approach for making their quilt, Hiroko said, “I wanted to make a fun quilt, so I made all the characters jump for joy. Mt. Jonen is our town’s symbol. These are reverse appliquéd with over 4,000 pieces, 1,900 leaves, and 300 flowers of apple trees.”

Texas Tech: Mexican Rose Quilt |
This Mexican Rose Quilt, referred to by the family as the Tulip and Vine, was donated to the Museum of Texas Tech University in 1953. It was gifted to the museum's founding director, Dr. William Curry Holden, by his mother, Grace Eleanor Davis Holden (1870-1951). Two years after her passing, he donated it to the museum. |
The quilt’s pattern has historical significance due to its connection to the Mexican War of 1846-48.
