Featured Quilt - First Place Pieced at Houston International Quilt Festival 2024

This 80" x 80" 3-D phenomenon, Tunnel Vision, by Beth Nufer and Clem G. Buzick is now a multi-award winning quilt, taking home First Place - Pieced (Sponsored by AccuQuilt) at last month's Houston International Quilt Festival 2024, and having also won Best Longarm Machine Workmanship at Pacific International Quilt Festival 2023. As the artist states, "Tunnel Vision is an explosion of color, texture, and dimension. It is easy to get drawn in!" And we certainly were!

You Will Love Lorraine Woodruff-Long

Just Like Everyone Else

"Wonderful show. Enjoyed her sharing experiences in Africa and how it made her appreciate our freedoms. Loved the way she chain pieces scraps. Definitely will try this." - Jackie M.

"I knew in the first 10 minutes of watching Lorraine Woodruff Long, show 3510, that this was to become my all time favorite. I came away with some great tips and ideas." - AB CD

As a curious and resourceful artist, Lorraine Woodruff-Long primarily uses solid cottons, upcycled clothing, and thrift store finds in her quilts, occasionally sourcing from her husband's closet. She views quilts as a canvas for expression, often incorporating thought-provoking text to highlight topics she finds important.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Pat Durbin's "Among Giants"

Pat Durbin's Towering Nature Inspired Quilt Depicting Forest Life

Pat writes about Among Giants, "A redwood scene was a natural subject for me, having lived in the redwoods most of my life. We attended a wedding in Richardson's Grove, it was a beautiful day and Gary took many pictures. As I searched for just the right one to do a quilt, this shot jumped to my attention. I decided to make it tall and narrow, just like the trees to enhance the feeling.

Techniques: The ground and leafy sections are "Mosaic Picture Pieced"; the trees are done with strips of many brown and gray fabrics. I experimented with threadwork for the baby tree in the front and the whole thing is heavily quilted."
