Featured Quilt - Second Place Naturescape at Houston 2025
Boulders at Lower Yosemite Falls by Sandra Mollon won Second Place - Naturescape (Sponsored by The Warm Company) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2025. Sandra says, "This raw-edge fused collage quilt is based on a photo I took while hiking in Yosemite National Park. I love the intimacy of small landscape quilts that draw in the viewer. I wanted to show reflection, and transparency, and movement of the water, as well as the texture and color of the rocks. Small amounts of mixed media were added for realism."

See More Design Possibilities Using Sheer Fabric
Julia McLeod shares how thrifted polyester sheer fabrics when layered over cotton prints create a unique secondary pattern and a completely new fabric in our latest show. See examples of sheers combined with black-and-white prints, colorful designs, and florals that feature large areas of negative space. Then, learn how to create even more depth and interest by trapping fussy-cut prints (flowers, petals, objects) between two stitched layers, then carefully cutting away areas of the sheer top layer to reveal the underlying print.

Texas Tech: Museum Quilt Used for Study |
From the Museum at Texas Tech University: "The American Quilt Study Group has a program in which members study antique quilts by reproducing them in wall-hanging size or by using the original quilt as inspiration. Through this process, participants learn about quilting techniques of the past.
The focus of the most recent quilt study was Quiltmakers and Designers: 1945 to 1979. For this project, participants selected a quilt made between 1945 and 1979 and reproduced it to explore the techniques used by quilters of that era."

"American Still Life" by Sandra Leichner
American Still Life was made by Sandra as a way to honor soldiers and their families who have taken part, or been a part of, the Iraq War. The birds that sit on each side of the basket with the flag in the center were quite the challenge for Sandra to create, as she wanted them to be identical. She achieved her goal, as the birds are so identical that if you were to draw a line from one beak to the other they match exactly.
