Featured Quilt - First Place Small Wall Quilts: Hand Quilted at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2025

Flowers For My Sister Susie by Lahala J. Phelps won First Place in the Small Wall Quilts: Hand Quilted category (Sponsored by Martelli Enterprises) at AQS QuiltWeek – Paducah 2025. While the designs in Lahala's quilt are traditional, they are actually much more traditional than you may realize. They take their inspiration from wood carvings featured in the Bamberg Cathedral in Bamberg, Germany, which was built in the 13th century. Using hand appliqué, machine piecing, and hand quilting, Lahala brought these designs to life in her quilt for everyone to see and enjoy.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: It's Time to Play with Polygons

"Polygon Play" by Jennifer Sampou

A riff on the traditional hexagon quilt, Jennifer Sampou's Polygon Play is an appliqué quilt that was made without using her hexie templates as she had forgotten them when she traveled to the mountains to make it. It is what she calls a "wonky polygon" quilt, creating fun variations of negative space throughout the piece.
