Flowers For My Sister Susie by Lahala J. Phelps won First Place in the Small Wall Quilts: Hand Quilted category (Sponsored by Martelli Enterprises) at AQS QuiltWeek – Paducah 2025. While the designs in Lahala's quilt are traditional, they are actually much more traditional than you may realize. They take their inspiration from wood carvings featured in the Bamberg Cathedral in Bamberg, Germany, which was built in the 13th century. Using hand appliqué, machine piecing, and hand quilting, Lahala has brought these designs to life in her quilt for everyone to see and enjoy.
