Featured Quilt - "J"ust In Case You Didn't Know, We're Now at the Tenth Quilt In Janet Stone's Alphabet Series!
The tenth quilt in Janet Stone's Alphabet series is Letter Carriers, whose inspiration for creation came exclusively from its name. Janet says, "The name of this quilt came to me before the quilt. The idea was of some letters hanging out in some type of containers. I decided I wanted to make the containers to be baskets and actually weave the fabric to make them look like real baskets. I used bias and/or straight cuts of folded fabric strips. I did the "weaving" on a foam core board and pinned the strips as I was weaving. I used a freezer paper template that I created for each basket shape, put a little dot of glue where necessary, and folded back the end pieces around the freezer paper template. I gave it a good press and removed the freezer paper. They were then appliquéd onto the block backgrounds. This was the first time I made hand covered buttons which I have used on several other quilts."
Janet's quilts in the Alphabet series are currently hanging in the National Quilt Museum as part of her exhibit, Janet Stone: And Now I Know My ABCs! and have been collected and presented together in her most recent book, Mutton But Letters!, which is available to purchase in her Etsy shop or in the gift shop of The National Quilt Museum.
And a fun fact from Janet about this quilt: "I made the scallops on the outside without really measuring them to see if they would fit, but miraculously they did!"

"Abundance" by Carly Mul
After teaching at Houston for a few years, Carly has now begun asking her students to bring either warm or cool colors to class with them. Since she made the request, Carly felt that she needed to have a sample to show them what they could do with those colors. Thus, she created Abundance as an example of what you can do with cool colors.
