Featured Quilt - A City Viewed Through The Lens of the Past
Victorian San Francisco by Marina Panzhinskaya was featured in the Tactile Architecture exhibit at Houston International Quilt Festival 2024. Using the Victorian Buildings of San Francisco: A Coloring Book by Shirley Salzman as her inspiration, Marina wanted to see if she could create a quilt just like if she were drawing a picture on a piece of paper.
She says, "This project started as a practice piece to prove that it is possible to draw with a thread and needle in the same way that you would use a pencil on paper. The coloring book gave me the idea to arrange them in a panoramic format. Using Pellon Flex-Foam as batting presented its challenges, but as a big advocate of free-motion quilting on domestic machines, I was happy with the overall result and wanted to share it with fellow quilters." |

In our latest show, you'll discover the story behind the Spiderweb block anniversary quilt which Ricky created for his parents' 50th anniversary. Fast forward to 2024, when Ricky, during a visit to the International Quilt Museum, learns that the museum holds a large number of quilts from Jonathan Holstein's collection, including the original quilt that inspired him from the Whitney exhibit.

"Millefiori" by Sherry Rogers-Harrison
To create her quilt Millefiori, Sherry went through a process that she has done with some of her other quilts. She drew out a portion of its initial design, drafted a pattern from that drawing, transferred that design to fabric, quilted it, and then painted on top of that quilted design. Millefiori took First Place - Large Wall Quilts: Longarm/Midarm Machine Quilted (Sponsored by Nolting® Longarm Quilting Machines) at 2014 AQS QuiltWeek – Paducah, KY and Third Place - Wall Quilts Longarm/Midarm Machine Quilted at 2014 AQS QuiltWeek – Des Moines, IA.
