Featured Quilt - Third Place Pictorial-Small at Houston 2024

Is My Planet Broken? by Dale Stuart won Third Place - Pictorial-Small (Sponsored by AllBrands.com) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024. Dale's quilt is one that has a very important environmental message behind it, and had this to say about what we are leaving behind for future generations:

“Is this how a child views what’s happening to our planet? Maybe naïve confusion comes before understanding but after noticing something is amiss. This fragmented Earth is the environmental legacy we’re creating for the coming generations. The inheritors of our planet—the children who cannot yet grasp the complexities of environmental issues—are the ones who will face the consequences of our current actions. Do we care enough to do something?”

Editing Your Color Palette With Lee Chappell Monroe

Perfect Your Palette

Lee Chappell Monroe demonstrates how to use a mural as a starting point for building and refining a color palette on our latest show. She begins by selecting fabrics that match the mural's colors. Sewing small units of selected fabrics together reveals how the colors interact. Then you will learn how to achieve color contrast, balance proportions, arc off in another direction, and maintain visual interest with fabric choices, all while using the mural as your reference.
