Wild Geese by Nikki Woolsey was featured in the Modern Quilts: A Twist on the Traditional Exhibit (Sponsored by WonderFil) at Houston International Quilt Festival 2024. Nikki's quilt is all about following your own path versus that set path that may have been laid out for you. We love this inspirational advice, and encourage others to follow their own creative path and make something amazing.

She says, "Many of us are raised to believe that there is a certain path that we are to follow. What happens if we break free and go a little wild? This quilt explores the diverging path through modern improv piecing and bold color play. The motif of the traditional Flying Geese block is used to explore the idea of breaking free. The block is represented through piecing and ghost quilting."

The Month 1 Patterns for Our 2025 BOM Are Here!

And They're a Few Days Early Too!

It's time to download your first month of Laurel Ridge patterns. There are two colorways, Grandmother's Autumn and Granddaughter's Spring. If you purchased either of these kits, make sure to download the pattern that goes with the appropriate colorway as they do differ because of the fabrics being used. If you are using your own fabrics, we recommend that you download the patterns from the Grandmother's Autumn colorway to use as your guide.

In month 1 you will be making Four Patch in a Star blocks.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Tiffany Inspired Beauty

"Tiffany Sunrise" by Bonnie Langenfeld

Tiffany Sunrise is Bonnie's recreation and reinterpretation of the Tiffany window, Magnolias and Irises, and takes its inspiration from two places. The first is its namesake, as Bonnie has an admiration for Tiffany's stained glass windows. The second is from the quilting world, as Bonnie is a big fan of Sue Bleiweiss and her fused lines, which is were the big, bold line work design comes from. After taking a class from Sue, Bonnie got her permission to execute the design of her Tiffany Sunrise quilt and then to teach a class on it as well.

Think of a quilting concept, and The Quilt Show has probably covered it in some shape or form over our many years as an educational program. Why is that? Because we've love all things quilting, crafty, and beyond here at TQS and want to share what we love with you. Block printing, thread sketching, 3-Dimensional sculptures, and more, have all found their place at The Quilt Show. The expression "whatever floats your boat" means that if you enjoy it, don't care what other people think as it'll make you happy.
