Featured Quilt - A Famous Landmark From Another View Point
Everyone sees things form different perspectives, and that's what makes everything so much more interesting. If I look at one thing one way, and then you tell me your view, I can see it in a whole new light. That's just what Andrea Barrett did with her quilt Eiffel Up, which looks at the world famous Eiffel Tower in Paris from another angle. Entered into the Abstract category (Sponsored by Sew Steady) of the 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival, here's how Andrea went about creating her quilt.
"How much can you change the image of an icon and still recognize the icon itself? Designed from a photo taken by my husband 17 years ago, this view of the Eiffel Tower was taken from an unusual perspective - underneath, looking up. Many years later, when I decided to make it a quilt, I rotated it (the sky is in the lower right), recolored it using digital tools, and enlarged it. It was pieced using my own foundation patterns drawn to scale." |
