Featured Quilt - Third Place Pictorial-Large at Houston 2024

Oak and Rose by Beckey Prior, and quilted by Jackie Brown, won Third Place - Pictorial-Large (Sponsored by World of Quilts Travel) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024. Beckey says, Oak and Rose is my interpretation of Beauty and the Beast. Hand-drawn, painted, and inked, the characters were hand appliquèd in Tudor costumes surrounded by a hand appliquèd Broderie Perse rose arbor in a moonlit forest glade filled with Jackie Brown’s hand-guided quilted trees. Small moths flutter through the scene as Oak courts Rose with the gift of her namesake flower. Will she accept him?”

Lee Chappell Monroe Returns With Creative Color

This Show Has a Little Bit of Everything

Alex and Ricky welcome back Lee Chappell Monroe, who is here to teach approachable ways to understand color by using charm packs to do the hard work. Whether you're new to charm packs or a seasoned pro, Lee will guide you through exploring how these little squares can also help you refine a color palette based on photo inspiration, making a big impact on your quilt projects.

Plus, if you've ever wondered how to resize a favorite quilt block to fit your project perfectly, Lee's got you covered! She'll walk you through the process of adjusting block sizes without creating any fabric waste, so you can tailor your designs to your exact vision.

Watch Lee in Learn How to Work with Color and Resize Your Blocks with Lee Chappell Monroe, which debuts today!

The "Pick a Petal" Month 12 Patterns Are Now Yours!

It's Time For The Last Month of BOM Patterns for 2024

As December arrives so to does the last month of patterns for this year's Block Of the Month, Pick a Petal, designed by Jen Kingwell. What will you be doing in Month 12? Why, assembling your entire quilt top together of course! We hope you enjoyed creating your Pick a Petal quilt, and we're already looking forward to next year's BOM, Laurel Ridge, designed by Lynn Wilder.

PLEASE NOTE: After December 31, 2024 The Quilt Show will no longer be able to provide you the patterns for Pick a Petal. We strongly recommend downloading all of the patterns before then to avoid any issues that might arise after the first of the year. To make this easier for you, we have a single convenient file for you that contains all 12 months' patterns.

It Will Be a Fun Year of Creating Artificial Intelligence Images!

From Ricky Tims: "Each week there will be TWO challenges. The second challenge is totally optional and self-indulgent on my part. The first challenge is will be the main challenge topic for the week. It might be a place, a type of person (cowboy, ballerina), or it could be inspired from a poem or descriptive paragraph from a book. The challenge images are always fun and diverse. The optional challenge will be images created based on descriptions from my novel (co-authored with Kat Bowser) Lizzy Albright and the Attic Window."

Class starts January 5, 2025, but you can join the party any time during the year as participation memberships are per calendar year.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A "Swirl" of Improv Style

"Swirl" by Lorraine Woodruff-Long

Lorraine loves scrap quilts, and Swirl is a quilt that she made from lots of pieces left over from a couple of quilts she had made for other people. With a love of improvisation, picking up pieces, putting them all together, and seeing where it takes you, Swirl was the end result of this improvisational journey for Lorraine and is a part of her Polychrome series of quilts.
