Featured Quilt - Viewer's Choice at AQS QuiltWeek Branson 2025

After winning Viewer's Choice at last year's AQS QuiltWeek in Branson, for her quilt Snow Much Fun!, fifteen-year-old quilting phenom Lorelai Kuecker returned to the show this year and won Viewer's Choice (Sponsored by Rowenta) for the second year in a row with her quilt, Fabulous Fireworks.

This quilt is no stranger to the quilt show circuit, as it was featured last year at the Houston International Quilt Festival as part of their 50 Years of Great Quilts exhibit, which celebrated the show's 50th anniversary with a dazzling display of red, white, and blue quilts.

Lorelai says, "This quilt was inspired by the display of fireworks that my family has at our lake party each year on the 4th of July. I thought, "What better way to represent the American tradition than with patriotic explosions of geometric patterns and color?" As a fifteen-year-old quilter, I have grown from traditional designs into a more modern aesthetic. I designed the quilt to reflect the radiating patterns seen in our annual show."

Lorelai will soon be making her debut on The Quilt Show, as she recently joined us in, coincidentally, Branson, Missouri to tape a wonderful segment. And in case you didn't notice, Lorelai creates outfits that match the quilt she is showcasing at each show. You can see the outfit she made to match this quilt as part of the rest of the photos of her quilt.

Before her Quilt Show segment airs, and after getting a glimpse of her fabulous quilting work, click the Quilt Video tab on this quilt's page to watch an interview between Michelle Renee Hiatt and Lorelai from the floor of AQS QuiltWeek – Branson 2025 where they discuss her quilt.

Beth Cunningham Is Bugging Out with Fabric

Bugs Born From Fabric and So Much More

Beth Cunningham begins our latest show by discussing how the fabric scale, print size, and template are important considerations when working on such a small design. She advises letting the fabric dictate your embellishment choices, using variety and contrast to make the most of your bug design. She then discusses embroidery stitch choices and shares examples of beetles to illustrate the variety of fun, colorful characters.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Flying High In The "Sky"

"Diamonds In The Sky" by Tula Pink

Diamonds In The Sky was completely hand pieced using English Paper Piecing. Tula is primarily a machine quilter, but when she travels, and she travels about half the year, she needs something to do. So this quilt was made entirely on airplanes, for the most part, with Tula trying to figure out different ways to work with different shapes.
