Featured Quilt - A Big Look At Something Small

We continue our look at the quilt of the Breaking Rules, Honoring Tradition Exhibit with Betty Busby's Gorgonia. Betty's quilts tend to look like enlarged microscopic images, and this one is no different as it examines the intricate and beautiful pattern found on sea coral. She says, "Gorgonia is the Latin name for some species of sea fan corals, from which the pattern for this work was adapted. Machine stitching outlines the intersecting lines, and the background is hand stitched for added texture."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Going For The "Silver"

"Silver Ring" by Teresa Coates

Teresa used a Denyse Schmidt pattern, Free-Wheeling Single Girl, that she tweaked to create her Silver Ring quilt. What's unusual about the quilt is that Teresa used all traditional cottons in making it except for the fabric she used for the single silver ring. Can you guess what she used to make it, and can you go even further and guess where she got it?

See more of Teresa's quilts in How to Use Minky Fabrics in Your Quilts with Teresa Coates | Ricky Tims Dancing Squares Quilt.
