Yes, Laurie Rosenbaum is correct. If you just pull the spool out, the thread will bring the lint into the tension discs. Learned it the hard way...

After snipping the thread close to the spool, put the new spool on, tie the two together and pull through to the needle. Not sure if Superior Threads or BERNINA would approve, just something I do to save time when changing colors.

How does one unthread a machine incorrectly? I have a Singer Featherweight and a BERNINA 770.

According to their website, we should snip the thread close to the spool and then pull it out through the needle.
