Trailer
Tara Faughnan joins Alex to discuss her ideas about color theory and value in quilts. They talk about how some colors “sing”, others don’t, and how value can change the energy level of a quilt. She also supplies information about her “Color Collective”. Then, Tara demonstrates her style of free-form hand quilting that she does without a hoop. She considers hand quilting an embellishment. She also shows Alex her stitching chart that she created to keep track of which type of needle works the best with different types of thread.
We end the show with a visit to Diana McClun’s house and studio. Diana is a quilting pioneer and author along with Laura Nownes of Quilts! Quilts!! Quilts!!!, now in its 3rd edition.
Tara Faughnan joins Alex to talk about her early beginnings as a quilter and designer. She discovered quilting through Quilter’s Newsletter and wanted to be one of those “quilting heroes”.

From Chapter Four:
A visit to Diana McClun’s house and studio wraps up the show.
Really enjoyed the show and it held so many ties for me! I started quilting with Alex's book in 1996 that I bought at a Joann fabric when we were living in Mishawaka, IN! I was able to meet Alex several years later at the Marin Needle Arts Show. I also had the pleasure of taking two classes last year with Tara in Ft. Lauderdale, FL - her color method has been such a huge help in my quilting journey! I also lived 21 years in Pacific Grove, CA and was able to attend Empty Spools in 2013 as a 50th bd present from my family - they arranged for me to stay the whole week there even though I only lived a few blocks away in order to get the full experience Thanks for a great show!
Thank you so much, I received the fabrics and other good things that I was trying to order. Thanks again for helping me, Hopefully I will get the fabric for your next lesson. It is on back order. Your shows have been a big help for me. I am trying to focus on quilting and knitting, instead of grief. . Your in my prayers Louise Partington
What a great episode. Tara’s segment was serendipitous for me because I’m currently exploring the impact of color in my quilts and all types of hand quilting. And, to see another lefty quilting just made me smile (under my mask).
Absolutely SUPERB ..the production, camera work, pieces shown & your Guests, Tara & Diana! Just WOW! Alex I learn from you each time I tune in to these shows. Thanks to you & Ricky T. for your caring about sharing this art of quilting. I say I, too, am a quiltmaker, with humbleness. (a word?) Just WOW!!
