Description:
Artist Statement: "I'm an engineer by training and numbers are my love language. Sudoku is a puzzle game where players insert numbers 1 through 9 into a grid. In this simple version, the numbers are placed in a manner so that each row, column and diagonal add up to 15.
Here, I created foundation paper piece templates for each of the nine numbers, inspired by and adapted from a typographical font: 'Stripe Font' by Gray Ng. The number blocks are 17 x 17 "pixels" and finish at 4.25". Each stripe is 1/4". Each block uses 2 solid colors plus black. If you look closely at the finished quilt, no solid color is repeated in any row or column to further the sudoku theme. For quilting, I used color coordinating 12 wt threads, and chose to alternate the 2 colors in each block to add another striped element."
