Description:
When he was eighteen, Kate's son wanted to go to a place where they used to picnic as a family when he was younger. At this location, there is a stream with rocks in it where he liked to build damns. While visiting there, Kate's husband and her son started building a damn together and it was the first time she'd ever seen them doing anything cooperatively. During the creation of Stepping Stones, Kate thought of this moment while making the quilt and thought that the squares looked like stepping stones, both the literal ones from the stream and the metaphorical ones her husband and son took working together that day.
