Description:
Artist Statement: "I chose the delectable mountains block as my old favorite because of its 1920’s Art Deco elements: bold geometrics, symmetry, and, here, vivid colors. I incorporated gold accents to reinforce the Deco esthetic flourishing in the decade.
My work, “Silents Knight” features Charlie Chaplin, an Englishman, who rose to worldwide superstardom portraying “The Tramp” in some 63 films over the course of two decades. His first full length film was 1921’s “The Kid”. Besides starring in the movie, he directed, produced, edited, and composed the music. His filmography lists Charlie as producer and director in nearly all of his movies—scoring and writing more than half of them.
Most film historians consider him as the greatest comic artist of the silent screen and one of the most important figures in the development of the modern film industry. Over the course of an acting career spanning over 70 years, he received many awards and honors including Queen Elizabeth knighting him in 1975."
Note: "The delectable mountain blocks are machine pieced and the Chaplin figure is raw edge appliquéd by machine. The quilting is also done by machine."
