Artist Statement: "When I was little, we used to play a game called horses. I could run the fastest and had long, thick hair which was my mane. My hair would be loose and flying free in the wind. Ageing brought me white hair at an early stage. The whiter it got, the curlier it became. it seemed that my hair morphed into a badge of courage, protecting me from potential uncertain circumstances. Over the years, my hair has served as protector, builder of confidence, and a reliable hiding place.
Collaged with upholstery scraps, handmade paper, and photo transfers of my actual hair, this piece is meant to be ambiguous. From afar it seems as if it is a giant white swirl. Upon closer look, my face peeks out from behind my sleeve and divulges the glorious white, curly hair, my secret super power."
