Description:
What is Christine Porter's 2020 UK Doorways Challenge? - "When I founded Cabot Quilting Conferences, I met many quilters from around the UK who attended the residential weekends. Over 10 years ago, I challenged around 25 of the ‘regulars’ to join in a Challenge to take place every other year and Grosvenor Shows have very kindly taken our quilts on tour at their shows around the UK every year since we started. For each challenge I pick a theme and this year it is ‘Doorways’. The rules were that the quilt must be 24 inches wide and 40 inches high and the participants were asked to look for inspiration from any type of doorway, inside or outside buildings, any type of architecture, any type of weather and landscape, fantasy or reality."
Artist Statement: "Inspired by the doorways seen on a visit to Picton Castle, Pembrokeshire. Each doorway was created using one, two or more of the following - patchwork, applique, printing on fabric, ink dyeing, fibre pens or Galetos. The background was screen printed and all the work was machine quilted."
