Description:
Jane's Nebula quilt features, what she calls, pineapple stars. This is when the four corners of a pineapple block come together and form, you guessed it, a star. The quilt was designed as a barn raising, with the dark stars in the middle surrounded by the next to dark and so on all the way out to the edge as they get lighter in color. Jane considers the quilt to be in the log cabin family, with her telling people that it is a "log cabin gone bezerk".
Artist Statement: "Nebula: made with Cherrywood sueded hand-dyed fabrics, using 14 colors, from dark navy blue to gold. The colors were arranged in a Barn-raising set, and the hand and machine quilting done to enhance that design. The quilt was shown on the cover of QNM.
Chroma Series - Pineapple designs, positioning analogous colors across the face of the quilt. When I look at a diagram of multiple pineapple blocks, I see “stars”, the corners where four blocks come together, in diagonal rows. If I use colors adjacent to each other on the color wheel, and fill in the connecting areas with appropriate shades, the overall effect is a diagonal colorwash."
