Description:
Artist Statement: "Inspired by the Amish Star quilts that used many different types of printed fabric to make a star, I turned the idea on its modern head to simplify it. I used red modern fussy-cut fabrics designed to enhance the stark white minimalist background. The red piecing is much smaller than traditional star-patterned quilts, lending volumes of negative space for the free-motion quilting to create beautiful shadow lines. The red fabric is purposefully not quilted, breaking traditional rules."
Techniques: Hand Appliquéd; Machine Pieced and Quilted
Design Source: Original Design
About the "Modern Quilts - A Twist on Tradition" Exhibit (Sponsored by Wonderfil Specialty Threads): "Modern quilts often take traditional blocks and reinterpret them through the use of solid-colored fabrics or give them a new twist by using negative space, minimal repeats, improvisational piecing, and gridding for quilting. A modern quilt can be pieced or appliquéd. This exhibit showcases amazing modern quilt from talented artists."
