Description:
Inspired by the whimsical oil paintings of Angela Morgan, whose art is greatly admired by both my wonderful Australian partner and now great friend, Michelle Basten from Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, and me. With no intention to copy Angela exactly, my art quilt is a very rough interpretation and complication of a few of Angela’s art pieces. We did ask and receive Angela’s written permission to use her works as inspiration. This quilt was created with a raw edge appliqué collage technique using both batiks and cotton fabrics, and finished with a bit of thread play and a few embellishments. To make it my own I added items such as the fish and bird balloons and the ‘refreshments’ table. It took several frustrating, but fun attempts to settle on a technique to move forward to the final version. Once I decided on the process I started making progress. Of course, choosing the right background was an even bigger decision. I auditioned countless fabrics and the stripes won. I also choose rounded corners to soften the boldness of the stripe. And then I was finally able to say ‘it’s done’!
