Description:
French Laundry was created by Marcia using a photo that she took, turning it into a slide, and projecting that slide on the wall to draw the image to be the size of a quilt. The quilt was hand appliquéd, and Marcia says it took her at least three times to get the fabric for the purple shirt on the line to look right, and the solution was far simpler than she could have thought. The answer came in the form of the green pants on the left of the line, which while looking like hand-dyed fabric is actually a commercially available one that Marcia just let the colors of the fabric themselves replicate the creases and look of regular clothing. The same technique was then applied to the rest of the laundry in the quilt.
