Description:
Sheila created Electric Faerie of the Getty Garden for the International Quilt Festival Special Exhibit: Good for You 2011. This was an international juried and judged exhibition of art quilts where the theme was Good for You - as in, "What's good for you? Chocolate, wine, video games?" As long as the quilt spoke to the theme, it was acceptable.
Artist Statement: "Few things bring more balance and peace to my life than the beauty of nature. I live near the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, which features amazing art and a magical garden, where I created the original drawing. I feel that everything has an essence, a spirit, something most people cannot see, but energy you can feel. That energy often takes the form of little beings that visit me."
Design Source: The garden at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the movie The Secret Life of Plants.
Techniques: Fused Appliqué, Dyed, Painted, Inked, Discharged, Machine Quilted
