Technique: "A fabric collage was constructed from Indian dupioni silk and cotton batiks, then covered with fine black tulle and free-motion quilted. The borders are made of dupioni silk and antique brocade sari trims. Faces were drawn on cotton batiks with Caran d’Ache watercolor pencils and permanent ink pens. Embellishments of beads, sequins, pearls and hand embroidery were added; the splashing water was made with mylar thread and tiny seed and crystal beads."

Description:
Dawn Prayers on the Ganges is made from a collection of images, or a montage of them, that Meri had to create a portrait of the Ganges in her mind. Meri was fascinated by the beautiful colors and the people she had seen in India, and the border is made with silks from there as well. Plus, if you look closely, Gandhi appears three times throughout the quilt. Can you spot him?
