Description:
One of my quilts, "Dawn of the New Day," was inspired by a national tragedy, 9/11, which I chose to interpret in an abstract way. When I made this quilt for the invitational United We Quilt exhibit, memorializing the events of that terrible day in American history, I knew I did not want a visual image of the World Trade Center. Instead, I chose to represent it in a more figurative way. The somber ray flying geese show the rubble that remained, and the bright yellow "pointy dudes" represent he individual good deeds that happened as a result. It culminates in a bright, shining star of freedom, surrounded by the patriotism of America. It features a 10,000 pyramids border, a free-form star, pointy dudes, and flying geese.
