Heather Pregger won First Place, Abstract, Large at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2019 with her abstract version of a tiger's eye gemstone. In Tiger's Eye (50" x 72.5") she used strips of fabric to take her design to the "microscopic" level.

Heather's statement: "Tiger's Eye is a popular and attractive gemstone, usually metamorphic, composed of quartz in a finely fibrous form. Under the microscope, you can see the finely textured quartz and altered amphibole fibers."

I love quilts that don't follow the same old designs. The artist is taking our imaginations to new areas, not bounded by rules or expectations. This is super creative and she definitely deserves the win for two fantastic quilts. I wish I could buy this quilt.

This is an intense piece. There is so much for the eye to follow through the quilt again and again Quilting is very precise..
