A new exhibit was unveiled at the Houston Quilt Festival this year highlighting "Rising Stars" in quilting. Alex caught up with one of those stars, Karlyn Bue Lohrenz, and learned from her what it was like to be chosen. They walked through the exhibit and talked about her quilts.

Oh my gosh! I think I've about warn out my laptop cursor clicker thing, stopping and starting the video to look at these quilts and then remembering to breathe! The words on her signs are an inspiration too. An articulate woman both with fabric and words. Loved the one..."a quilt is finished when its shared."

I so love that you honored your husband with this amazing quilt....he must be so proud to see that you know in your heart how hard he works, right along with you.

I was fortunate to see this exhibit last year in Houston.
Karlyn’s love of family and strength is evident in each beautiful piece. Congratulations ! I even had a chance to speak with Karlyn. I also lost a beautiful daughter whose favorite movie was The Wizard of Oz. There is a common thread through all quilters, isn’t there?

I just LOVED seeing & hearing this story. I have known this lady for about 15 years but have not seen any of these quilts. They are AWESOME---so realistic! So glad, Karlyn, you were chosen to be the RISING STAR! You really deserve it! Keep up the wonderful work!
