Description:
I had 3 sources of inspiration: Beth Helfter and her Accordion HST method, a photo of a quilt on Pinterest and a fabric sample of an upholstery fabric. Beth developed a method of using up your scraps to make HSTs where every HST is unique and has no twin. Once I master the technique (it took me less than 30 minutes) I couldn't stop making them. I love creating variety and this method was perfect for that. I had enough HSTs made for 3+ quilts before I even started to put them on the design wall. I used a quilt I saw on Pinterest for the layout. After I got my top laid out, I went back to the source of the photo. That quilt was made with all HSTs and was on point. Mine wasn't. I like both designs but I think mine took less time to construct. The color choice came from a fabric sample my friend gave me. I loved the warm buttery yellow in the background of the large floral print. The flowers were so bright and clear. The blend of colors so excited me, I made too many HSTs for the quilt I originally planed to make. I now have a twin to this quilt and enough blocks left over I made another top with just HSTs. And I still have more blocks left over. I will probably use them in a border some time.
